Requests from non-UMBC investigators to recruit participants

Steps to follow for the IRB to allow recruitment

Members of the UMBC community receive, from time to time, requests from investigators unaffiliated with UMBC to recruit participants for human subjects research. Participants are generally students, but faculty and staff may be recruited as well.

These investigators must request permission from the IRB before recruiting participants and before posting flyers on campus bulletin boards or sending email announcements to the general community or specific campus groups.

The ORPC will advise such investigators to submit a request following the IRB's recruitment request process.  We recommend they follow the IRBs guidance on formats for recruitment materials.  Additionally, the ORPC will also point these investigators to Student Affairs resources and policies for posting notices in campus facilities.
